Project
O7. Online / ICT learning system

Type: LLP-ERASMUS
Parent: Skills Training for Effective Practice (STEP)

Period:
1 Oct 2014 - 30 Nov 2016

The curriculum and training course produced by this project will be available as open and online training. Features of the online system will be:

  • It is designed with end-users input from consultations around the stage 1 trials
  • It will be tested thoroughly during stage 2 trials and finalised with feedback from those users
  • It is intended to be usable with current and readily accessible technology - special or unique software or difficult computing demands will be avoided
  • Usability criteria will govern the design of interfaces and access arrangements. The goal is to make the system usable both at work, during actual work-based learning experiences, and at the learner's home, doing assignments or preparing portfolios, case studies etc in their own time.
  • It will include any essential elements of face to face teaching, and can be integrated with traditional learning modes
  • It will permit and include the use of available technology for tutor led guidance of the learner - telephone, e-mail, skype, text messages.
  • While available to use through open licensing, the quality control standards for the course will be mandatory for those delivering the training to learners. This is essential because many elements of the course require teaching, guidance and assessment of human interaction skills,  which demand a level of expertise from the delivery organisation. Also the assessment processes will be based on demonstration of competence, not attendance or completion, so expert observation will always be required.
  • Participation will be open and flexible. Learners will only need to work through those elements that are necessary for them to achieve the required skill, omitting those in which they are already skilled.

Social media will be included if they can demonstrate:

  • direct relevance to the learning experience
  • guaranteed longevity of software and system availability
  • confidentiality of data
  • positive contribution to learning skills and tutor - learner  and learner group interaction.

The system initially be a project partner communication & document store, which may evolve into a tool for long term course providers, and then developed into a learning platform that incorporates O1 and O2 for stage 2 trials, and then O3 to O6.

A very small amount of management and administration time is included here, to ensure for the proper direction, co-ordination and quality of the project outputs.
