SLTOOL-SMART LANGUAGES (NEEDS ORIENTED) TOOLBOX FOR EUROPEANS

Objective is to create a language learning tool that is based on user needs . The tool will use a structure of a pyramid with 4 levels:Language-Need-Thematic Section-Methodological tool. The philosophy of the tool is that the user has a specific need to satisfy in a specific language eg going on holiday or doing business with another country or watching a documentary. Once this need is identified, the tool will use specific thematic sections directly related to the need. Based on these, different methodological tools will be used. 1 thematic section on culture will be included independently of the need.
The needs of 3 groups will be identified: higher education students, adults & professionals.
SLTOOL uses an action oriented approach & the actions usually performed by each of the groups will be identified through focus groups. A web based platform will be created & specially designed content will be uploaded. The content will target the 3 groups mentioned above & will be structured in different thematic sections. In addition, different methodological tools (Images, Intuition, Imagination)will be used for different thematic sections. 2 out of the three target groups of 8 people will participate in each pilot in each country. In total 7 countries will deliver 2 pilots each.
The results of the pilots will be evaluated & SLTOOL will be adopted. These groups will meet & the meetings will run simultaneously in all countries. During each meeting one thematic section will be covered. The meetings will combine the use of elearning as well as simulation through on line conversations. During the sessions the students will use the platform to learn basic words & phrases. Then students from different countries will communicate through the platform (pairs of 2), making conversations on the topics. The conversations will be reviewed by facilitators. All participants will take an assessment.
The tool will enable EASY,LOW COST NEED ORIENTED LANGUAGE learning in 6 languages
