MATE – An Innovative, Student-Centered Approach to Intercultural Skills Acquisition for Students and Young Migrants

MATE is an Erasmus+ project with a duration of 25 months. It is coordinated by MMC from Cyprus and supported by 6 European partners including Cyprus, Greece, Sweden, Austria, France and Spain. The project target groups include local and migrant background students who will acquire and develop most of their communication skills through social media, engaging at the same time trainers/training providers.

MATE main objectives are:

  • To develop a holistic and innovating Online and Offline methodology for the acquisition of intercultural competences. The online approach through appropriate social media networking that promotes equality and discourage xenophobia and racism. The offline approach through interpersonal communication that focuses on common humanity rather than differences.
  • To provide specific outputs that will support this methodology, like training programs and materials, methodology guides for “Report Racism Workshops” and for the implementation of the MATE events and also intercultural skills assessment tool.

MATE project brings different cultures cooperation and trying to decrease xenophobia and racism that affects all EU. It is promoting necessary actions that will ensure better quality outputs that can be used throughout Europe.
