O5. E-platform with learning resources for KCs 6-8 and online pre-assessment test

Type: LLP-ERASMUS
Parent: Cultural Awareness and Social Skills Key Competences in Tourism

Period:
September 2015

Today, as trainers and trainees, the digital age is one which we need to embrace. Technology in education opens up a huge world of possibilities as to how we convey, share and engage with trainees presenting different ideas, facts and theories. For this reason, the CS.tour partnership will develop an e-platform. The e-platform will be based on the idea that knowledge should be disseminated and shared freely through the Internet for the benefit of society as a whole. The two most important aspects of the CS.Tour e-platform have to do with free availability over the Internet and as few restrictions as possible on the use of the resource. There will be no technical barriers, no price barriers and as few legal permission barriers as possible (copyright and licensing restrictions) for the end-user. The end-user will be able to use or read the learning resource, since all the resources will be downloable. The developed e-platform will provide services as an e-library. Its central mission will be to collect, organize, preserve, and provide access to knowledge and information. It will provide information and services that are essential to learning and progress.

The CS.Tour e-platform will be an access point for print, audio and visual materials in numerous formats including prints, documents, e-books etc. with relative material developed for KC6 - Social and Civic competences and KC8 - Cultural Awareness and Expression. Specifically, the uploaded learning resources will include: books, methodologies, reference materials, bibliography, relative projects developed on Key Competences KCs 6 and 8, case studies, relative links etc. The CS.Tour developed training materials (Training Needs Analysis, Curriculum on KCs 6 and 8, Trainer’s Methodological guide and Trainer’s Toolkit on KCs 6 and 8 and Trainees Syllabus on KCs 6 and 8) once they will be assessed and finalized, they will be uploaded on the e- platform for anyone to use.

The development of the CS.Tour e-platform is of great importance since on the one hand, it will encourage trainers to share information with learners more effectively and on the other hand, the learners will rely on e-platform to perform their job. It will allow trainers and learners unlimited access to vital learning materials and resources at any time, wherever they are. Furthermore, the e-platform will be freely shared through, which means that will facilitate use, revision, translation and sharing by anyone. All the relative stakeholders and key experts such as opinion leaders and policy makers, VET-authorities, VET-providers (include VET managers/trainers), business associations, Employment offices (public -private), Human Resources agencies/organizations/departments, training and mentoring experts, social services, business centres, decision makers, researchers, etc will have free access to visit it and use the available learning resources.

Once the e-platform will start running, the CS.Tour partnership will develop an online pre-assessment test to define the participants’ training pathway. This online pre-assessment test will include maximum 100 questions on Social and Civic Competences and Cultural Awareness and Expression developed by the lead partner in collaboration with the whole partnership.

The online pre-assessment test will determine participants’ prior level of knowledge, skills and attitudes on KCs 6 and 8 before running the pilot trainings and will contribute to the strengthening of participants’ interpersonal and cultural awareness skills. This per-assessment process will draw conclusions on how important is for each participant to attend the training, since it will identify possible deficiencies or points that need improvement, whereas, it will be a systematic approach to gathering information about learners. The lead partner will edit the results of the per-assessment test and the scores that will be recorded during the assessment process in each country. This activity will assist the consortium to decide for the necessary adaptations in order to achieve the finalisation of the training materials based on participants’ particular needs.
