O2. CS.Tour Training Curriculum for KC6 and KC8 (EQF 4-5)

Type: LLP-ERASMUS
Parent: Cultural Awareness and Social Skills Key Competences in Tourism

Period:
September 2015

This Intellectual output, aims to develop and test a training curriculum that delivers training for people involved in the tourism and hospitality industry. The European Reference Framework (ERF, 2007) identifies and defines the Key Competences (KC) that citizens are required to have for their personal fulfillment, social inclusion, active citizenship and employability in our knowledge-based society. DIMITRA as a leading organisation and partners of this consortium have implemented a Transfer of Innovation LdV project “CERF”. Under this project and specifically for the KCs 6 and 8, training curricula have been developed. The training curricula introduce the KCs and determine the general aim of the overall curriculum, the specific aim per each chapter, learning objectives in terms of Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes and the detailed contents. The focus of this module is distinct from the traditional courses on social and cultural awareness skills, as it is based on the conceptualization of the KCs 6 and 8. However they do not include the reference level according to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), whereas there is a small development on KCs 6 and 8 to the tourism sector. For these reasons, the CS.Tour project will review the methodology that has been used in the CERF project and take it to the next level by turning it into a flexible curriculum and introducing new material that will help communication and comparison between qualifications systems in Europe. This will allow learners to understand and compare qualifications and also relate these to the labour market and possible employers. The newly developed curriculum will be also based on the results of the Training Needs Analysis and the comparative transnational report and will aim for the trainees to reach levels 4-5 of the EQF in regards to knowledge, skills and attitudes.

Based on the Training Needs Analysis done and the review of the CERF curricula and aimed to cover the previously defined needs and learning deficiencies, according to the national analyses reports, the first step will be to design the curriculum.

The curriculum will cover all the components of the KCs 6 and 8 and will target every European that desires to have quality of personal life as well as a prosperous career in the tourism and hospitality sector. It will be modular and therefore each partner will develop a specific module. The aim of the curriculum will be to further develop the personal, interpersonal and intercultural communication skills and will target every European that desires to have quality of personal life by acquiring the know-how to manage the cultural diversity on the basis on their own identified needs. The developed curriculum will also support business initiatives in the tourism and industry sector, while it will be supported by pedagogical material.

After the development of the material, the curriculum will be translated in partner languages and a pilot training for 15-20 participants in each territory will be tested at European level and get different feedback from different countries.  Each partner of the consortium will run a pilot training on module of the curriculum that has developed. It will be used the blended learning which means that a various of training methods will be designed to complement each other and worked in tandem to achieve overall learning objectives and outcomes. The curriculum will be re-modified and adjusted respectively through the process of a formative assessment, meaning that it will involve qualitative feedback for both trainees and trainers that focus on the details of content and performance. The overall scope of the pilot training is to test the sufficiency and effectiveness of the selected methodology with regards to the specific characteristics and training needs of people involved in the tourism and hospitality sector.

After the implementation of the training courses, each participating country will summarize the experience of the participants in the sessions in one recommendations report. FOLKUNIVERSITETET will collect the 5 recommendations reports (one from each country) and compile one report which will incorporate the concentrated experience from the implementation of the sessions and which be utilized in the finalization of the curriculum on KCs 6 and 8.

Based on the recommendations in national level, the developed curriculum will be finalized as an intellectual output. Through these recommendations the partnership will elaborate more on the needs and possibilities of practical usability of the CS.Tour curriculum in the business world and the labor market. The developed Curriculum on KCs 6 and 8 will be disseminated to participants through a multimedia a training tool  during the Final conference and it will be published on the developed e-platform.
